THE SOUND

The sonic landscape of the Spa x Home is a crystal singing bowl sound bath created by Sue Pentland.

Sue Pentland is a Massachusetts yoga teacher who has been incorporating sound baths into all of her yoga classes since she witnessed the calming effect singing bowls had on her son's mental health disorder.

As Sue explains:

The Tibetan Bowls that I play are all hand-hammered and antique. Some are over 150 years old and one huge one was used to call the monks to meditation in a big, beautiful monastery in Tibet. As they are hand hammering, the monks say a mantra each time they strike the bowl and believe that, when played, the bowls energetically hold the vibration of that mantra.

Each bowl is white quartz, and infused with different gemstones (Rose Quartz, Tanzanite, etc.) The bowls' overtones entrain the brain waves into theta and delta states - it's like being able to go into deep states of meditation, bypassing all of the hard work. Add that to guided meditation or yoga and it's a pretty deep experience!"
